Overview of a Formworks Home ... page 5
More Than Environmentally Friendly
Formworks structural
systems are friendly to the environment for at least six good reasons:
- Saves
woodlands. There
is no need to use wood in the construction of a Formworks home.
The basic structure does not use wood. Using wood in the interior
is optional.
- Creates (rather than destroys) green space. When
earth-sheltered, the Formworks home can grow grass, shrubs, or a garden
on the roof.
- Reduces pollution. This year more
than 869 million metric tons of pollution will be produced by conventional
homes just for heating and cooling in America alone. Formworks homes
produce 90% less pollutants than current modern housing. If everyone
in America chose the Formworks system, the airborne pollution problem
would be largely mitigated!
- Reduces Global Warming Effect. Formworks
homes use the earth itself to maintain their temperature. If a heating
system is used, very little escapes into the environment.
- Saves natural resources for centuries. Because
the Formworks home lasts 5-10 times longer than a conventional home
it follows that each Formworks home built eliminates the need for 5
or more conventional homes to be built in the next 200+ years.
- Reduces use of pesticides and other chemicals. Because
the Formworks home is virtually impervious to insects, the need for
pesticides and other chemicals is greatly reduced.
